Qantas Flight 94: Melbourne-Bound Plane Returns To LAX After Water Leak
Melbourne-bound Qantas Flight 94 was forced to turn back to Los Angeles early Wednesday morning after a water leak on board, the Australian airline said in a statement.
"A flight from Los Angeles to Melbourne has returned to LA about an hour after take off as there was a water leak on board," Qantas said in a statement, adding that there were "no safety of flight concerns with the water leak, however the Captain decided to return to LA in the interests of passenger comfort."
"We're also providing customers with hotel accommodation while the issue is being fixed by our engineers in Los Angeles," the airline said.
A witness told 7 News Brisbane, a news station, that water soaked through the roof of the plane into the economy section of the aircraft.
The plane, which was reportedly an Airbus A380, left Los Angeles at about 11 p.m. local time, News.com.au reported, adding that the leakage came from onboard pipes carrying drinking water.
Qantas Flight 94 landed safely at LAX, according to 7 News Brisbane's Twitter account, which shared a photo of water running down the aisle of the economy section of the Qantas plane:
